Now where I live it is super cold right now so every few days even if I don't have work, I go for a drive. Good for the car. I decided to also clean out my change jar, so I took out a load of loonies and toonies. Barely clear 1/8th of it BTW.

I drove to EBgames, its Saturday morning, it's slow. Talk to the staff, they recommend Mario Odyssey, I figure no harm this is my mad money. I told them I'll pay in cash, girl says fine until she realized I was paying in $1-$2 coins. Total shock on her face,I then added a preorder more loonies and toonies. She tried to protest, but her boss said nope, it's legal, its easy to count, go.

Someone is going to have to get that money to a bank, but not going to be me.:) Maybe EBGames can arrange for a small forklift.;)

Given how Mario collects them, there is a certain balance to this act. Paying for coins in a game where the hero collects them.

So using established currency is a jerk move? TC mentions in the OP that they had extra coins and wanted to spend them, there's nothing wrong with that. Shame on that employee for trying to refuse service and good on that manager for making her do her job.

Doesn't make you a jerk if you wanna use your spare change as it's still legal tender.

Also, it's not only Canadians as I'm American and if I have enough spare change on hand to purchase something that I want to purchase I'm not going to go out of my way to deposit it in my bank account first.

yeah because the 1% publix charges at the coin counter machine is so much that you have to start a line and have ppl waiting behind you right? i was in a line like that and the person next to the one with 10 dollars in coins was a diabetic that was waiting to buy a candy bar before passing out with a hypoglycemic episode and almost fainted because of that, so tell me again how is being a useless jerk a good thing.

It does make you a jerk when you’re doing it solely to inconvenience someone else, which TC obviously was trying to do judging by his topic title and his expected reaction from the cashier when he gave her the money.

She would’ve likely reacted differently had he been apologetic about making the transaction take far longer than typical. But why would he when that was his goal?

What a badass. He stood in EB Games longer than necessary.

The coins are $1-$2 a piece? What's the problem?

If he had brought in a jug of pennies and nickels, then I can see where someone might get annoyed, but this is the equivalent of paying with singles. If the cashier had a problem counting singles, they shouldn't be working retail.

While the cashier certainly shouldn’t have a made big deal out of it, only a giant bag of dicks would unapologetically pay $85-$90 in single/double coins or bills. And since he’s always wanted to do this in his lifetime for some pathetic ass reason, he probably had a huge “fuck you” grin on his face when he handed her the money.

There is no debating TC is just a dick.

Poor employee. :( I know it's her job but you should have the decency to pay in more manageable amounts. It's called common courtesy - a trait many young people seem to lack. Just because there's a cleaning lady doesn't mean I should soil the place deliberately, you know?

I've never wanted to do that. I hate the thought of it actually. Just go to one of those coin machines that are in grocery stores and exchange the coins for cash or go to the bank.

Your story kind of reminded me of those people who pay off bank loans with small change to "get back at the bank". I want to scream at them that the higher-ups at the bank don't give one little shit about how you pay, just that they get their money. It's just forcing some miserable, tedious job on someone who has nothing to do with whatever issue they had with their loans. And some of them were so smug about it, too. Like they had accomplished something when all they did was be an asshole to the bank staff who have no control over anything.

If his sugar was really so low that he was on the verge of passing out, I'm sure no one would care if he ate the candy bar right there in line. He could just pay for it after. He's in the middle of the line, it's not like he could leave without paying without someone else noticing.

I bank at Tangerine so they lack physical branches, good reason to not go to one to deposit the money, since there are none.:)

I had a little fun while buying a game, I also cleared away some of my change. Hardly crime of the century.

If the store was packed, if the manger said no, a thousand and one ifs. I would've stopped myself. Reality was the circumstances were right for it. I mean how busy are your EBGames in the middle of a cold snap when it is in a California style mall in the middle of winter!

Besides the manager used this as a teaching moment, he showed her how to stack coins so they wouldn't fall over so she could count them all.

Expected "I made love while playing Mario Kart" when I saw the topic title.

Disappointed that wasn't the answer. In fact I can't honestly fathom why ANYONE would actually want to be a gigantic jerk to Gamestop/EB Games staff for no reason. Sure, if the store is one of the ones that has tons of horror stories about it, then I could understand, but it didn't sound like it was one of those stores.

    WTF did I just read?
I think it'd be pretty messed up if we all wanted to act like a petty, smug asshole once in our life.

It's not that u paid in small change that makes u an asshole, it's that u relish in tha fact u annoyed n hassled some girl who's already workin a shitty job where she's got a high chance to deal wit shitty ppl all day.

So in addition to being a dick by paying in change "for the lulz", you got to be extra pricky by having this employees manager treat her like a child...as if she wasn't miserable enough working at Gamestop.

Dude, call it experience sometimes the sharpest knifes in the drawer don't work retail, so she could use that lesson.

Wow. As a fellow Canadian, I’m deeply ashamed that you’re both a gamer and a Canadian. What a douchebag. Seriously, like who does that crap? Did you get some sick pleasure from seeing a poor girl squirm over counting your coins and then be treated like a child? You’re an awful human being. And just by the fact that you’ve shown zero remorse for being a giant tool to another human being, I think it’s fair to assess you as such. Gloating on Gamefaqs that you made someone’s day worse by your lack of empathy shows how much of a child you really are. So thanks for making yourself look awful in the eyes of almost everyone here. Mission accomplished, I guess.

only Canadians, who would have known right?

They're not even a real country, anyway.

That's true, it's just a piece of land with a few people living on it. It must be part of the U.S., right? Unofficially anyway. Take a drive here and bring a gun with you. You'll be allowed to just cross right over with it, since Canada isn't a real country anyway. It won't matter.

You missed the point. The point is, try bringing something that's considered fine and legal there, but illegal here, across the border. It doesn't have to be a gun. Canada isn't a real country so you can bring whatever you wish over here without consequence. If you can't, the Canada just might actually be a real country with its own rules and laws.
