Switch outsells Wii U lifetime sales in less than a year! JP

  3. Switch outsells Wii U lifetime sales in less than a year! JP
I know Japan doesn't matter that much but...

Between December 2012 to December 2017, the Wii U sold a measly 3.3 million units. It would have been lower if not for the huge appeal and success of Splatoon. As of March 3 to December 24, 2017, 3.3 million Nintendo Switch consoles have been sold in Japan.

Nah, it really was bad. A convoluted mess of a console, that's a real pain to pick up and play with only a few games worth mentioning.

Once the Switch gets a new Smash or a port of Smash 4, the Wii U will lose its last purpose as the Smash machine and finally fade into obscurity. (I do hope that Xenoblade X and Mario Maker won't be forever trapped in the Wii U though, those games deserve better.)

That's what I think anyway.

The Wii U was essentially the precursor to the Switch. It was actually a pretty nifty piece of hardware even if it was a bit clunky from a functional standpoint. But it’s hard to see the Switch in its present state without the prototype that was the Wii U.

Wii U will have a bigger cult fanbase than the Dreamcast and Vita because unlike Sega and Sony who bailed on the systems at the first sign of trouble Nintendo stood by Wii U and showed what it was capable of.

The games on Wii U's library will outlive Vita's niche bishojo waifu library for another 50 years. Wii U will be a favourite for a lot of people.

I'm telling you guys these things are going to be expensive on EBay so you better keep hold of yours if you have it. And putting the games on here won't stop it either because the games can't be played the way nature intended here. Miiverse >>>>> phone app friend code shite

Vita will end up like Jaguar. A "console quality" handheld which didn't get console quality handheld games and never showed just how good those console quality handheld games can truly look.

If you "match" the sales of something exactly and then you sell one more, then you have outsold it. So it's basically the same thing.

But to be precise, we've got a case of shitty video game journalism again. The claim is that the source cited (Famitsu) says that the Switch outsells the Wii U, but if you look at Famitsu's numbers, that's not actually the case:

| NSW | 303.504 | 230.259 | | 3.291.903 | | 3.291.903 |
| WIU | 103 | 101 | 8.417 | 21.748 | 336.151 | 3.301.486 |

Up to the period tracked (which is up to and including last week) the Switch is 9.583 behind the Wii U's LTD (150.983 behind it according to MC). Of course, there's zero doubt that the Switch didn't sell 9.583 units plus whatever meager amount the Wii U shifted that week up to when the article was posted, but the source provided doesn't support the claim that the Switch outsold the Wii U.

Wrong.

And nothing better illustrates that Wii U was irredeemable shit than Bore of the Walking. It was a Wii U game. It was ported to Switch for reasons. People mistook it as a Switch game and it put doubt into everyone's minds that when Nintendo actually did release a great game once again (Super Mario Odyssey.), not enough people were willing to give it a chance. Because not only did Nintendo just release one of the worst and most shallow video games of all time then publicly circlejerk over it (It was the ONLY game featured at E3 2016.), but Mario games have sucked after Galaxy as well.

The games on Wii U's library will outlive Vita's niche bishojo waifu library for another 50 years. Wii U will be a favourite for a lot of people.

I'm telling you guys these things are going to be expensive on EBay so you better keep hold of yours if you have it.

lol, the delusion is strong in this one.

Look, there was a fucking PC emulator for the thing while it was still an active system. AND look how many Wii U games are being ported to Switch. Even Bayonetta 1 + 2 since Platinum clearly can't take the hint that no one likes sexualized Sarah Palin. If anyone wants to play its shit library, the option is available and it doesn't take a god damn Wii U.

Want BotW? PC emulator (Which allows mods to the game to boot~.) + Switch.

Want MK8? It's on Switch and the online servers will be around when the Wii U version's are shut down.

Want Pokken? It's on Switch.

Want Splatoon? Splatoon 2 is a glorified expansion pack rather than an actual sequel.

Want 3D Land 2? 3D Land 1 for 3DS gives a similar experience.

Want Color Splash? Sticker Star gives a similar experience. And so does BotW. (Disposable weapons? Non-optional battles being pointless due to lackluster rewards compared to what you just pick up and find? Yep.)

Want Nintendo Land? No you don't.

Want Star Fox Zero? Just get Star Fox 64 (3D), the game it's a soulless rehash of once you get past the lolcontrols.

Want NSMBU? There's 3 other NSMBs for fuck's sake.

Want Wind Waker and/or Twilight Princess? Well, they're ports of Gamecube games so.....

Want Tr4sh? Eww, why?! Well, there was never a reason to buy Wii U for that one when it released on 3DS first.....

Want indie games like Shovel Knight, Shantae, etc.? They're on everything else. Got a PC made in the last 6 years? Got a Switch? Well then.....

Wii U offers NOTHING.

Wii U offers NOTHING.

Besides the fact you left out Pikmin 3, Woolly World, Tokyo Mirage, Tropical Freeze, Mario Maker, Project Zero, Devil's Third, Wonderful 101, Hyrule Warriors a few multiplats, backwards compatibility, apps like YouTube, Crunchyroll and Netflix and an entirely VC library including GBA and DS games with the goat of all video games Metroid Prime 3 being playable on the system along with the best 2D game ever Zero Mission your list also makes flawed comparisons.

Mario 3D World, New Mario and Luigi, Smash Bros for Wii U, Splatoon and Star Fox Zero are all completely different from their counterparts on other systems. And don't bother saying Hyrule Warriors, Woolly World and Mario Maker especially are on 3DS because they aren't. They are shoddy poormans versions which are terribly gimped to the hardware and removed major features to get them to work. No Ganon, co-op or online? What kind of cash grabs are they? Of course 3DS owners will say they are better but you guys and gals didn't play the superior original versions or you would never accept the buggy HW, the downgraded map and copeless Woolly World and no online Mario Maker.

The only Wii U game that will be useless is Lost Reavers because the servers will vanish. And once again free online only benefits Nintendo and you can buy a monster 2TB hard drive to hold everything on Wii U. The games being on Switch won't mean anything because the only advantage will be faster loading since I still refuse to accept the Switch as portable. Its way more expensive for memory budget and has the audacity to charge for online while it is at it.

They say nothing is free in this world but Miiverse was.

Other than that you are on to something.

Nah. Japan has just moved more towards a portable future and the demand for dedicated handhelds is bigger than it ever was when DS came out. Its growing everyday. All Nintendo need to do is tear down the false illusion that the handheld market has shrunk when the reality is mobile gaming is for the fad casuals who will abandon mobiles at the earliest opportunity.

There will always be a huge group which refuses to accept mobile gaming as the way forward for handhelds regardless of what journatrolls, trollalysts and forum trolls preach.

The only reason 3DS sold less than DS is because the wide audience it discovered moved to mobiles but as stated earlier they are no more loyal to mobiles than they were to motion controls. Nintendo just have to win back the casuals and Switch will outperform PS2.

This is the argument i have been making for years. Mobile phones can truly boost handheld gaming as it is a super casual entry point that makes one hungry for the big stuff. If someone picks a phone over handheld consoles for life related purposes like calls and messages then they'll pick it over all consoles. But when it comes down to gaming, especially handheld gaming, switch has them very much outclassed. And home consoles still sell well despite PCs doing everything better than them and more so i am not worried about handhelds.

I love how people try to impose their own tastes in gaming upon others. I would not lump the Wii U into my list of favourite consoles, absolutely not but the games I have enjoyed on the Wii U aren't even on your list, and I actually have a much lower opinion of Mario Maker. It's more of a glorified tech demo than an actual game, often filled with garbage levels which aren't fun at all. The main thing which the Wii U has in its favour is that it also has a Wii built into it, thus eliminating the need for two separate machines.

That's what I think anyway.

You're not alone with that line of thinking, though. You see it with the Switch and people proclaiming that there are only few games worth mentioning or deriding excellent games just because they weren't produced by big name third parties or AAA developers.
GameFAQs, you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and vulgarity. We must be cautious.

When the game crash happened and Nintendo were on the rise the analysts were saying back then consoles were just toys and people would move to computers. While PC gaming has continued to rise since then its still nowhere close to what they were saying 30 years ago. Both PCs and mobiles have their flaws when it comes to raw sales figures. Drop out rates are a lot faster on mobile games and PC games might sell well but don't reach the sales they could have because of piracy.

You can point out you reach larger audiences through those markets but going through console and handheld players gets you a more dedicated audience than the PC pirates and mobile muckers.

Hahahahahahahaha good one!

I bought a 2TB hard drive for £70 and it held absolutely everything. I bought a 128GB memory card last month expecting it to last at least until next Christmas while prices for the bigger ones come down and it's already used half. Explain why online is better on Switch. Why is it worth paying money for as well? The library on Wii U was the best. It is the best quality Nintendo have put out by far. I just love the Metroid Prime Trilogy so much I can't consider it better than Metroid.

But overall yeah. It had the best Pikmin, Yoshi and the best DK since 64. Xenoblade X might be my opinion but I thought it was better than the original (of course thats changed with Xenoblade 2). I think the Wii U Smash Bros is the best minus the fact it doesn't have Smash Run and Subspace.

PS4 and XBOne might have got more games but Wii U overall got better games and without all the expensive BS attached like paid online, microtransactions, lacking in variety because a lot of your precious third parties don't realise you need variety in your offerings and not just sports games and shooters. I'd rather take quality than quantity any day. You should show Wii U more respect because everything happening with Switch is happening because of lessons learned with it.

The only thing is a lot of you are so ignorant you don't realise the quality Nintendo is putting out on Switch is the quality they were putting on Wii U. Maybe because you never played it. If more people had given Wii U a chance you'd realise this Yoshi is not as appealing as Woolly World.

I am talking about how ps4 took more than two years to outsell wiiu and how switch does it less than a year. That is VERY big since jpn is sony and nintendo's home town.

I love how people try to impose their own tastes in gaming upon others.

That really wasn't my intention, but looking back I can see how I might've come across that way. I really don't like it other people do that either so I apologize.

It´s good and all but worldwide sales are more important in the case of the Switch outselling the WiiU.

It will probably happen by March.

Consoles sell more than PCs for gaming for one reason: Consoles are designed from the ground up to function with a controller. PCs simply aren’t. You can get them to work fairly well with the proper set up, but that doesn’t change the fact that Windows is not made for 100% remote control. Windows 8 had potential to go that route and people crapped all over it.

Microsoft used to have a living room PC division and be that ended up becoming Xbox. Which means that even big names like Steam had to create their own OS to enter the living room all nice and proper, and that limits game support.

Handhelds and Phones aren’t particularly the same market either. Most people who play primarily on their phone have no desire for a portable console. As soon as their phone could play anything decent at all they dropped them and never looked back. But Switch can fill the tablet niche and capture a few people who want better games/controls that what is offered on phones. Nintendo covered every possible base with one device. Console, Tablet, Handheld. That can only help sales. Now it just needs more apps to really compete in the tablet space.
Now Playing: Tokyo Tattoo Girls(Vita), Dreamfall (X1), School Girl Zombie Hunter (PS4)
Currently Watching: Xena, Desperate Motherhood, Earth Final Conflict

People always forget that. The majority will always choose the easiest, simplest solution. No one cares about games costing a few pennies if you're constantly required to update your gaming PC.

Considering how Japan's share of Switch sales is about the same as with the Wii U, if it outsells the Wii U in Japan, it's pretty close to do so WW, too.
