That is a lot more since just a few weeks ago.

Also, who the heck is buying all of those iPhones?!

Amazing. Sold more than the U but in 9 months.
Poor source.

If they had said less than 5 million they would suddenly be totally trustworthy here.

Wouldn't Nintendo have reported it themselves if that was the case? I mean, thats great if true!

We just have to wait for Nintendo's reportings next month I believe?

You're not wrong. The same source of this article says this:

The global market share for smartphones is dominated by Google's Android system, which owns 85%, compared to 15% for Apple's iOS, according to researcher IDC. But the iPhone is the most popular smartphone brand, having opened a huge gap compared to No. 2 Samsung's Galaxy phones at 33 million. However Samsung, which has a broader portfolio of phones, sells more overall. Indeed, in 2016, Samsung shipped over 320 million phones, most lower-priced phones sold outside the United States, like the J3, On8 and A9 lines.

So the iPhone X sold more than any other tech product this year, but if you add up all those Samsung phones sold this year, it's actually more than what the iPhone X sold.

It's not impossible. It sold 1.154m so far in Japan alone in november to december, and it still got this week to go. That will probably get it to around 1.25m, which is 25% of 5m. And 25% is pretty much Japan's share of total Switch sales.

I doubt they hit 15 million already. We’ll know for sure when Nintendo has their quarterly earnings next month. This is still a good sign though. It won’t be long before the Switch outsells the Wii U and GameCube assuming it hasn’t already outsold the Wii U.

They are probably saving that announcement as a high note for the investor meeting January 31st. This will also keep good media buzz flowing for Nintendo during these dryer months.

I personally think they will have sold 15.1 million consoles to retailers by December 31st (what Nintendo will report at this meeting) and will have only sold 13.6 million consoles through to customers by December 31st (which they might also mention at the meeting since it is above the Wii U lifetime sell-through)

Either way, good news all around and this will be garnering more focus from 3rd parties for sure.

Yeah. I'll be surprised if they mentioned the Wii u specifically. They're trying to distance themselves from the Wii u. They don't want to remind the average consumer of it. "What's a Wii U?" is their new company slogan. Saw it in a recent commercial.

And I actually liked the Wii u. But I admit it's bad for the brand right now to associate with it.

Completely agree.

Even then, at this point last year the Splatoon game was assumed by most to be a port of the original.

In all fairness, Splatoon 2, Xenoblade, Arms, Mario Rabbids and more became known after this point last year.

It's just plain short sighted to call 2018 dry at this point.

bought ps4, bought swotch, bought pc, dont carer about the sales, i enjoy gaming and thats about it. when sales means so much to you, you have a mental disease.

I bought brand new car almost 2 years ago. Do I go look about how many and this model sold just to reassure myself ? no. becausei dont care i have a car, i enjoy driving it and thats it.

The #NintendoSwitch has officially become the fastest selling home console ever to hit the Japanese market.

Too bad it is not actually a home console.

it has 2 primary uses. you cant just pick and choose what one you want to call it just to fit your narrative. its design allows it to be both unlike other systems.

How is Nintendo Switch not a home console? Its a console, and it can be played at home on the TV.

That makes it a handheld with TV out. The PSP was a home console?

i dont think you will find anyone on the internet trying to describe a PSP as a home console.

    Poor source.

If they had said less than 5 million they would suddenly be totally trustworthy here.

Do you intentionally try to make yourself look stupid or what? Why would anyone claim that a <5mil source is credible given that Nintendo themselves confirmed 10mil+ sales for the Switch? If anything, people may try and argue that this source isn't credible since it isn't official. Although I personally, given how great the Switch is doing, think that it is possible that the Switch already reached 15mil in sales.

But will it be able to carry this momentum in 2018 where most of the year looks dry.

Huh? We already know that we're getting Yoshi, Kirby, Wolfenstein 2, Bayonetta 1+2 collection and possibly Metroid Prime 4 and Pokémon Switch next year. Plus there's going to be directs where they'll announce new games. Not to mention all the indies that pop out every now and then.

Nintendo doesn't need system sellers next year. They need more games that sell a million like ARMS, which basically means games that will give a modest bump here and there. That alone will keep momentum. And they already have enough games of that sort lined up for next year. That's not including third parties or multi-million selling stuff like Animal Crossingand Fire Emblem.

Stuff like a W101 port is on the way. I'm sure of it. I doubt Pokemon releases this year.

This is in fact true they make a small profit on the console (unlike competitors) yes but that isnt what create money for them all console sales mean is a greater install base as the sale of games is what makes money

First party games give a semi decent margin and thrid party release have to pay a licensing fee...

It is good to see the sales and as I posted earlier apparently they are on par with ps2 sales in japan first year which is great but it is all about game sales!
